The Story of Studio Ghibli, an exhibition inspired by Studio Ghibli's films, opens in Singapore on Friday 18 December 2026 at the West Lawn of Gardens by the Bay and runs until Sunday 4 July 2027, from 10am to 7pm. On 21 October 2026 the exhibition's own site listed tickets at S$39 for an adult and S$29 for a child for residents, and S$49 and S$43 for non-residents, sold online through Klook for a timed slot. A visit takes about 60 to 75 minutes, with no time limit once you are in.

Over a run of more than six months, the real decisions are which day to go and what a mixed group of residents and visitors will pay.

At a glance

  • Dates and hours: Friday 18 December 2026 to Sunday 4 July 2027, 10am to 7pm; Gardens by the Bay adds that "Timings are subject to change" (event page), and the exhibition's FAQ says hours vary by day.
  • Where: the West Lawn, beside Active Garden; the nearest MRT station is Bayfront (CE1/DT16).
  • Listed prices: residents S$39 (adult) and S$29 (child); non-residents S$49 (adult) and S$43 (child) (exhibition site).
  • Tickets: online through Klook, the site's authorised platform; "a limited number" may be sold on site.
  • What it is: 12 scenes across nearly 3,500 square metres, organised by M Experience Pte Ltd, according to Gardens by the Bay.

How much are Studio Ghibli exhibition tickets, and who pays which price?

The exhibition's site lists the four prices above under the line "Plan ahead and enjoy the best available prices when you book online", plus an optional "Fortune Bundle" with a No Face fortune talisman, advertised at S$9 more.

Three things were not on the page we read, so confirm them on the ticketing page before you pay:

  1. Who counts as a resident. For its own attractions, Gardens by the Bay's Flower Dome page says resident rates cover citizens, permanent residents and pass holders living here, and that proof may be asked for. The exhibition has its own organiser, so do not assume the same rule.
  2. Age bands. The list says "Child" and "Adult" without ages and has no senior price; the site says the exhibition suits all ages, with children supervised by an adult at all times.
  3. Whether the price changes by date. The site shows one price per category; we could not open the Klook page, so check the price for your day, especially a weekend or holiday, and any booking fee.

For hosts, the site says private or exclusive bookings, for example for a birthday, "are not available at this time"; school and corporate groups are asked to enquire by email.

What will a family visit cost? A worked example

Illustrative: the family is invented, prices are those listed on 21 October 2026, and booking fees are excluded because we could not see Klook's checkout.

Farah and Daniel, both Singapore residents, plan a day in the week before Christmas with their children, aged 7 and 10, and Daniel's mother, who is visiting from Perth.

  • The exhibition: two resident adults at S$39, two resident children at S$29 (assuming both count as children) and one non-resident adult at S$49. Subtotal S$185, or S$203 with a S$9 Fortune Bundle for each child.
  • The Christmas Train Show: it runs in the Flower Dome from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, 9am to 9pm, with Flower Dome admission (event page). Resident tickets are S$12 for an adult and S$8 for a child aged 3 to 12: S$40 for four. The non-resident list has no Flower Dome-only ticket; the cheapest option is Flower Dome and Cloud Forest at S$46. Subtotal S$86.
  • Garden Rhapsody: the light and sound show at the Supertree Grove plays daily at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, and its Christmas Special edition is listed from 29 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, dates "subject to change" (Garden Rhapsody page). Admission is free, but the page adds that charges to the Supertree Grove "may apply for ticketed events such as Christmas Wonderland"; our Christmas Wonderland guide tracks what is confirmed for 2026.

Total: S$271, or S$289 with the bundles, if the evening show is free that night. The lesson is in the grandmother's line: her two tickets cost S$95, against S$51 for a resident adult doing the same day, because she pays S$10 more at the exhibition and the Gardens sells non-residents no Flower Dome-only ticket. If a visiting relative is the reason for the outing, price their line first.

A workable order is an afternoon exhibition slot, the Flower Dome next (about an hour; last admission 8.30pm; it closes on maintenance days, so check your date), then the 8.45pm show. Our Christmas Train Show guide covers that display, our ticket combinations guide compares the Gardens' bundles, and the group cost calculator splits the bill when one person books for everyone.

Which days are likely to be busiest?

No page we read gives crowd figures; the exhibition's FAQ says only that "There may be a short wait during peak periods, but timed entry helps minimise queues." What is fixed are the holidays inside the run, from the Ministry of Education's school terms for 2026 and 2027 and the Ministry of Manpower's public holidays page:

  • 18 to 31 December 2026: the tail of the year-end school vacation (21 November to 31 December), with Christmas Day on Friday 25 December.
  • January 2027: New Year's Day on Friday 1 January; Primary 1 starts school on Monday 4 January and Primary 2 to 6 on Tuesday 5 January.
  • February: Chinese New Year on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February; MOM says Monday 8 February is a public holiday if your rest day falls on 7 February, and MOE gives schools Tuesday 9 February off in lieu.
  • March: Hari Raya Puasa on Wednesday 10 March, the school vacation from 13 to 21 March and Good Friday on 26 March.
  • May and June: Labour Day on Saturday 1 May (schools take Monday 3 May off in lieu), Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May, Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May and the June school vacation from 29 May to 27 June.
  • Sunday 4 July: the last day, which is also Youth Day, a school holiday.

Our reading, not the organiser's: weekdays in school term (roughly 5 January to 12 March, 22 March to 28 May and 28 June to 2 July 2027, leaving out the public holidays and those school days off) are when a slot competes least with family outings. For opening day, first check that 18 December appears in the ticket calendar. Our leave planner maps 2027's public holidays if you need a weekday off.

How do you get to the West Lawn, and what can you bring?

  • By MRT: Gardens by the Bay's getting-here page says to take Exit B at Bayfront, follow the underground linkway and cross the Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge, or to use Exit 1 at Gardens by the Bay station (TE22). The exhibition's site says to walk towards the Supertree Grove and follow the signs.
  • By car or taxi: the nearest drop-off is Bayfront Plaza (Arrival Plaza), with parking at the Gardens' car parks.
  • Timing: arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your slot; late entry is only "subject to availability", the site says.
  • Bags and food: small bags are fine and luggage storage is limited; no outside food or drink inside, and none is sold there, though food trucks will be nearby.
  • Strollers, pets and photos: strollers are allowed, though space may be tight in places; pets are not; photos and videos are allowed in designated areas, and flash and tripods may be restricted.
  • Access: step-free, with pathways suitable for wheelchairs, and "primarily visual", which the site says suits deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors; it uses lighting effects and sound, so guests with sensitivities are advised to take caution. It is presented mainly in English.
