For free Esplanade events, its venue and tips pages name two spaces: the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre on the Marina Bay waterfront, free every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday, and the Concourse at the main entrance, an evening performing space with shows “almost every day”. Ticketed shows carry a SISTIC booking fee of S$1 to S$6 a ticket, set by price band.
This page gathers what Esplanade’s official pages said when we opened them on 17 October 2026, each entry with its source. None shows a “last updated” date, so recheck a figure on its page before relying on it. For dated programmes, see our guides to Esplanade concerts from October to December 2026, Kalaa Utsavam 2026 and December at Esplanade, which covers the SSO Christmas Concert and Voices, or see our Q4 2026 events calendar and going-out guides.

- Free evening space: the Concourse, “almost every day”.

Where are the free Esplanade events held?
- DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre. The venue page describes an open-air stage on the 300-metre Marina Bay waterfront, with music, dance, theatre and circus arts free every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays. It gives no hours, so check the event’s own page: for example, the TEMALANG showcase page lists a free main showcase there on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 7.45pm and 9pm.
- Concourse. The Concourse page says the space at the main entrance becomes a performing space in the evenings. Its events section is headed “Free Performances” (in the page’s data; the text we read did not show it) and says “Happening almost every day”. The theatre-trip tips page says free performances happen “every day at the Concourse”. Example: Esplanade’s SENADA-KUSTIK event page lists a free 30-minute dikir barat set at the Esplanade Concourse on Saturday 31 October 2026, at 6.15pm and 7.15pm, part of the TEMALANG festival. Treat an evening as unconfirmed until an event page shows it.
- Other free programmes. The festivals and series listing labels some festivals “Free Programmes”; on 17 October 2026 that still included Popaholic 2026 (1–30 October 2026). It does not say where each is held, and a series description mentions a free monthly Concert Hall series, so free is not limited to these two spaces. The Popaholic line expires after 30 October 2026.
Which free space suits which evening?
This is our reading of the entries above, not Esplanade’s wording.
- Friday to Sunday or a public holiday: check both spaces. Our public holidays page lists the two left in 2026.
- Monday to Thursday: the pages name no free Outdoor Theatre programming, so check the Concourse first.
- Wet evening: the Outdoor Theatre is open-air; nothing we read says whether the Concourse is covered.
How do you walk to Esplanade from City Hall or Esplanade MRT?
Esplanade’s MRT walking guide gives four routes. It says the City Hall walk may take about 10–15 minutes, especially with little ones or strollers, and Esplanade MRT about 7–10 minutes for such families.
- City Hall MRT (North-South and East-West lines), above ground and unsheltered: through Raffles City Shopping Centre, along Connaught Drive, left at the Tan Kim Seng fountain and right at the bus stop, then the glass lift to B1 and a tunnel where you watch for vehicles, arriving at Basement 1.
- City Hall MRT, underground and sheltered: Exit C into CityLink Mall, follow it to the end, then the Esplanade Tunnel to Basement 1.
- Esplanade MRT (Circle Line), above ground: Exit D, lift up to Nicoll Highway, follow the shaded stretch, turn left at One Raffles Link South and cross to Esplanade Mall, arriving at Level 1.
- Esplanade MRT, underground: Exit D, lift to B1, then CityLink Mall and the Esplanade Tunnel to Basement 1.
Underground routes have stairs and escalators; stair lifts for wheelchair users are available at every set (intercom beside any escalator, or call CityLink Mall on 6334 2575). The general advisory says the CityLink tunnel to Esplanade is open 6am–10pm daily. For step-free planning, see our accessible outings comparison.
What do SISTIC booking fees add to an Esplanade ticket?
Esplanade says SISTIC is its ticketing agent and its booking fees apply. The visitor FAQ lists these bands, per ticket:
- Below S$20: S$1
- S$20.01–S$40: S$3
- S$40.01–S$50: S$4
- S$50.01–S$70: S$5
- Above S$70: S$6
As listed, no band covers exactly S$20.00. Illustration: a S$45 ticket costs S$49 with its S$4 fee. Check the checkout total. The ticketing page warns of phishing and gives Esplanade’s site and SISTIC’s as examples of official channels. For group sums, and for what to do about a stranger’s offer of a “spare” ticket, see our SISTIC fee worked example.
What are the refund, lost-ticket and entry rules?
Sources: ticketing terms, visitor FAQ.
- Cancelled show: buyers are notified, mainly by email, with where and when to claim a refund. For Esplanade Presents programmes, refunds go only to the buyer, on return of the ticket and authenticity of purchase, via the organiser or SISTIC.
- Postponed show: the FAQ says refunds are optional where the new date is known; the terms say they are not applicable (see below).
- Otherwise: “Tickets sold are non-refundable”, and resale is not allowed.
- Lost tickets: call 6828 8377 with the event, date and time, ticket count, where you bought them and the purchaser’s name. Replacements need verification and an administrative fee, and none is issued for free seating or general admission.
- Children and lateness: every person needs a ticket, infants included, unless stated. Infants and children below 6 are not admitted unless the promoter or venue owner permits. Latecomers wait for a suitable break, if any.
How do Esplanade&Me tiers work?
Sources: membership page, visitor FAQ. Esplanade may amend or withdraw benefits without notice.
- Discover: free, no expiry; priority booking and ticket specials on selected events.
- White: S$50 a year, or automatic at S$500 of spend in a membership year; renews at S$200 of spend. Adds early-bird specials and 10% off selected events.
- Black: automatic at S$1,000 of spend; renews at S$700. Adds 15% off selected events and 10% off parking (two vehicles may be registered, but if both are parked only the first gets the discount).
- Badges: PIP’s Club (children 12 and under), U26 (ages 17–26) and JOYears (55 and above).
- Rules: up to four tickets per production at member prices, within a quota, on non-concession tickets; specials show on each event page. Spend counts for SISTIC-ticketed Esplanade events (not StixLite or booking fees) and, from 9 March 2023, Esplanade Mall receipts uploaded by the next day.
What access support does Esplanade offer?
Sources: accessibility page, visitor FAQ. Availability varies by production, so ask before booking.
- PWD concession: up to two tickets per person with a disability, the second for a companion; the pages differ on which programmes qualify (see below). No documents are needed to buy at the Box Office or a SISTIC counter, but carry your card (DDR ID, PWD Concession Card or SSA membership card) in case of checks.
- Seating and queues: accessible seating, including for guide-dog users, “wherever possible”, though some productions cannot offer it. Priority Lane queues at the Box Office and Visitor Centre.
- Getting around: free wheelchair loan (call 6828 8377), wheelchair-friendly lifts, accessible toilets, accessible parking at both basement levels, handrails on both Concourse staircases, and backrests in the Outdoor Theatre’s last row.
- Hearing: assistive listening for Telecoil hearing aids; arrive 30 minutes early.
- Sensory and cognitive: Relaxed Environment shows (the FAQ names Beautiful Sunday, Coffee Morning & Afternoon Tea, Limelight and National Theatre Live) leave the show unchanged but let you make noise or move; Relaxed Performances such as PLAYtime! are modified. Dementia Go-To Point since 1 December 2021. For a host borrowing these ideas for a party, see our relaxed gathering plan.
What are the photo, camera, food and re-entry rules?
Sources: visitor FAQ, ticketing terms.
- Indoor shows: photography and video are generally not allowed unless promoters or artists say otherwise; food and drink are generally not permitted inside the venue, though this varies. At outdoor programmes they are typically allowed unless stated.
- Concourse and Outdoor Theatre: the FAQ calls these “public spaces”, where personal photography and casual video are generally allowed, without flash or obstructing others; some programmes restrict recording.
- Cameras: bulky cameras and recording equipment are not allowed into the performance venue unless stated; lockers outside are free.
- Leaving and returning: asked “Once the show has started, can I leave the venue?”, the FAQ says “Generally, no”, except Relaxed Environment and Relaxed Performance shows. It adds “Most of our free programmes are free-and-easy” (our reading: about coming and going) and that some shows allow re-entry only at suitable points; check the entrance posters or ask an usher.
What happens when it rains, or a programme is cancelled?
For free programmes, the FAQ says cancellations and postponements are posted on the event website and official channels, and no refunds apply as no tickets are issued. The venue pages give no rain rule, but event pages such as the TEMALANG showcase page carry an FAQ saying that for outdoor shows the event “may be delayed, relocated, or adjusted due to weather”, with signage and ushers on-site in rain. For ticketed shows, the terms let the promoter postpone, cancel, interrupt or stop an event in adverse weather. The general advisory carries a haze notice: if conditions reach unhealthy levels, some outdoor performances may be cancelled. Our haze and rain plan B guide covers backups.
Where do Esplanade’s own pages disagree?
Each difference could change a plan; where we chose, we name the page we followed.
- Concourse frequency: “every day” (tips page) against “almost every day” (Concourse page). We follow the Concourse page.
- Outdoor Theatre days: the venue page adds public holidays; the tips page lists Fridays to Sundays only. We follow the venue page.
- PWD concession scope: “selected Esplanade Presents programmes” (ticketing page), “all Esplanade Presents programmes, unless otherwise stated” (FAQ), “All Esplanade Presents programmes that offer concessions” (accessibility page). Ask before booking.
- Postponed shows: refunds optional where the new date is known (FAQ) against not applicable (terms). Rely on that show’s notice.
- White renewal by fee: from three months before expiry (membership terms) against only after lapsing to Discover (FAQ).
- Black tier: the tier summary mentions a donation route; the FAQ says spend only.
- PIP’s Club age: “12 years and under” (tier summary and terms) against “under 12” in one FAQ answer.
- PLAYtime! age: 2 to 6 (FAQ, accessibility page) against “three to six” (tips page).
What to check before you go
- Check the general advisory for closures and haze notices, and the event page for date, time, venue and ticket notes.
- Find your ticket’s fee band, and buy through official ticketing channels, as Esplanade’s phishing notice advises.
- Bring concession proof or your member login if they apply; leave bulky cameras at home or use the lockers.
- Call 6828 8377 (12pm–6pm) before booking if you need wheelchair seating, a guide-dog seat or the listening system.
