Kalaa Utsavam 2026, Esplanade’s annual Indian festival of arts, runs from 20 to 29 November 2026 at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, with 16 ticketed events (Rafta Rafta starts earlier, on 18 November) and tickets from S$20 for a one-hour workshop to S$150 for the top category of the headline concert. Since we first checked, Esplanade has also listed 23 free programmes, most of them 30-minute sets in the Concourse and at the outdoor theatre. Admission ages for the ticketed shows run from 6 and above to 18 and above, and the languages include English, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam, so the first decision for a group is which shows suit everyone.
Esplanade calls this the festival’s 25th edition, and its producer’s message names Sachin-Jigar, in their Singapore debut, as the headliner.
The member early-bird window (24 September to 7 October 2026) has closed. Since 8 October at 10am, most event pages list smaller Esplanade&Me specials, so check whether anyone in your group is a member before you buy. The dated plan below covers every event on the festival page as read on 17 October 2026.

Which Kalaa Utsavam shows suit children?
Two ticketed programmes are built for families. Paati’s Spice Kitchen is a 40-minute show in the White Room on 21 and 22 November at 11am and 4pm, for ages 6 and above with an adult aged 16 or above; tickets are listed from S$40 for one adult and one child, and the audience sits on the floor. The Parent-Child Bharatanatyam Workshop is an hour on Saturday 28 November at 11am, recommended for ages 6 to 12 with an adult aged 16 or above, from S$40 for one adult and one child. Both also list a two-adult or two-child ticket whose price was not in the page text.
Stories in Motion: Discovering Bharatanatyam is an hour on Sunday 29 November at 11am for S$20, open to all ages from 6 and experience levels, with no accompanying adult mentioned.
The free option for children is Not Quite Murukku, a 30-minute story in English about a girl whose Deepavali murukku will not come out right, in PIP’s PLAYbox on 21, 22, 28 and 29 November, four sessions a day (11.30am, 12.15pm, 3.30pm and 5pm), for ages 6 and above.
Six ticketed performances admit ages 6 and above: Today We Are Born Anew (Tamil, English surtitles), Ether to Earth (two hours), Job Kurian Live (Malayalam and Tamil), Sachin-Jigar Live (Hindi, two hours), The Final Act of the Decade and Songs of the Bulbul, which is recommended for 12 and above and has strobe lighting and loud sound effects. Rafta Rafta admits 9 and above and recommends 13 and above.
Esplanade’s visitor FAQ says every person, infants and children included, needs a ticket to a ticketed performance unless the event page says otherwise, and its ticketing page says children below 6 are not admitted unless permitted. No ticketed event lists an age below 6.
Which shows are for adults or older teenagers?
Three listings are 18 and above: A Very Mahogany Wedding (mature themes), Inventions by Biswa Kalyan Rath (Hindi, some mature themes and coarse language) and Dialled In Singapore, which lists a duration of nine hours and the advisory “free standing only”. Two are 16 and above: The Failed Romances (English and Tamil, mature themes and some coarse language) and Bedok to Bollywood (coarse language).
Two newly listed sessions are not for a general group: the Masterclass with Aakash Odedra & Rani Khanam (21 November, S$30, 16 and above) is for professional dancers and full-time dance students by pre-registration, and a sensory storytelling workshop is by invitation only.
What is on, day by day?
Times, venues and ages are from each event page on 17 October 2026. Several evening shows start at the same hour (three at 8pm on Saturday 28 November), so for two shows pick different days or pair a daytime show with an evening one.
- Wed 18 and Thu 19 November: Rafta Rafta, 8pm, Theatre Studio (ages 9 and above).
- Fri 20 November: Inventions by Biswa Kalyan Rath 7.30pm (Concert Hall, 18 and above); A Very Mahogany Wedding 7.30pm (Annexe Studio, 18 and above); Rafta Rafta 8pm (Theatre Studio); Songs of the Bulbul 8pm (Singtel Waterfront Theatre, 6 and above).
- Sat 21 November: Paati’s Spice Kitchen 11am and 4pm (White Room, 6 and above); Rafta Rafta 3pm and 8pm; Dialled In Singapore 6pm (Annexe Studio, 18 and above); The Failed Romances 8pm (Recital Studio, 16 and above).
- Sun 22 November: Paati’s Spice Kitchen 11am and 4pm; Rafta Rafta 3pm and 8pm; Ether to Earth 5pm (Singtel Waterfront Theatre, 6 and above); The Failed Romances 8pm.
- Fri 27 November: Job Kurian Live 7.30pm (Singtel Waterfront Theatre, 6 and above); Bedok to Bollywood 8pm (Recital Studio, 16 and above); Today We Are Born Anew 8pm (Theatre Studio, 6 and above).
- Sat 28 November: Parent-Child Bharatanatyam Workshop 11am (Rehearsal Studio; meet at the Theatre Studio entrance on Level 4, 15 minutes before); Today We Are Born Anew 3pm and 8pm; Bedok to Bollywood 4pm and 8pm; Sachin-Jigar Live 8pm (Esplanade Theatre, 6 and above).
- Sun 29 November: Stories in Motion 11am (Rehearsal Studio; meeting point Theatre Studio, Level 4, 15 minutes before; 6 and above); The Final Act of the Decade 7.30pm (Recital Studio, 6 and above).
One pairing that works on paper: on Saturday 28 November the one-hour workshop ends around noon, three hours before the 3pm Today We Are Born Anew (our arithmetic, not a recommendation).
What is free at Kalaa Utsavam 2026?
Apart from one talk that takes registrations and the invitation-only workshop above, the free programmes need no ticket. Most are 30-minute sets repeated an hour apart, so a group can arrive late and still catch one. As listed on the event pages on 17 October 2026:
- Fri 20 November: Opening Performance, 6.45pm, Courtyard (15 minutes); Rhythms of Tradition, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm, Outdoor Theatre; An Indian Girl’s Mixtape, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
- Sat 21 November: Rooted in Tradition, noon and 1pm, Concourse; Follow the Thread, a talk on South Asian textiles, 5pm, Black Room (free by registration from 28 October, 10am; limited seats at the door); A Little Town Called Maybe, 6.15pm, 7.30pm and 8.45pm, Outdoor Theatre; Echoes of Isai, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
- Sun 22 November: Rooted in Tradition, noon and 1pm; Samyojana, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm, Outdoor Theatre; Confluence: Indian Classical x Jazz, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
- Mon 23 to Thu 26 November: one Concourse programme each evening at 7.15pm and 8.15pm: Lasya Tarangini, Tamil Spoken Word Poetry, Sthayi and Samyuti.
- Fri 27 November: Shaam-e-Sukhan, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm, Outdoor Theatre; Mazhai: Live & Acoustic, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
- Sat 28 November: Dāstān: Kathak through the Ages, noon and 1pm, Concourse; PARVAAZ LIVE, 7pm and 8.15pm, Outdoor Theatre; Varnam, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
- Sun 29 November: Yatra, noon and 1pm, Concourse; REELS to REAL, 7pm and 8.15pm, Outdoor Theatre; From Billboard to Bollywood, 7.15pm and 8.15pm, Concourse.
The DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre is in the open air. Esplanade’s FAQ says outdoor shows may be delayed, relocated or adjusted due to weather, and its general advisory says some outdoor performances may be cancelled if the haze reaches unhealthy levels; our haze and rain Plan B has a message to agree with the group.
How much will it cost, and which member specials apply now?
Standard prices on the event pages, with the “from” price in brackets: Rafta Rafta S$65 (from S$57.20); Songs of the Bulbul S$45 (from S$39.60); The Failed Romances S$45 (from S$39.60); Ether to Earth S$40 (from S$35.20); Job Kurian Live S$60 (from S$52.80); Bedok to Bollywood S$50 (from S$41.50); Today We Are Born Anew S$38 (from S$33.40); The Final Act of the Decade S$38 (from S$33.40); Dialled In Singapore S$70 (from S$58); A Very Mahogany Wedding S$35 (from S$29).
Two shows are priced by category: Inventions by Biswa Kalyan Rath is S$80, S$65 or S$50 (Categories 1 to 3; from S$41.50), and Sachin-Jigar Live is S$150, S$130, S$110, S$90 or S$70 (Categories 1 to 5; from S$58.10). Paati’s Spice Kitchen and the Parent-Child Bharatanatyam Workshop list S$40 for one adult and one child, Stories in Motion is S$20 and the masterclass S$30.
On 12 of the 16 ticketed pages the “from” price is about 12 or 17 percent below the lowest standard price shown (our arithmetic), and the pages do not say how it is set. Most pages also have a concession tab (limited tickets) whose prices were not in the page text read. Budget from the standard price and the checkout total, not the headline figure.
SISTIC’s booking fees apply. Esplanade’s visitor FAQ lists S$1 a ticket below S$20, S$3 from S$20.01 to S$40, S$4 from S$40.01 to S$50, S$5 from S$50.01 to S$70 and S$6 above S$70. The event pages do not say whether the listed prices already include the fee, so check the checkout total. For how the member tiers work, see our membership tiers worked example.
Singapore citizens who were 18 or above in 2025 may be able to use SG Culture Pass credits (S$100, valid to 31 December 2028, chosen at checkout after a Singpass login); they cannot be pooled with other people’s, so a shared purchase needs thought. Only the six pages listed above mention eligibility, so confirm the event you want; our SG Culture Pass guide lists other year-end shows that take the credits.
What to check before you book Kalaa Utsavam
- Whether the show’s admission age and language suit every person in the group.
- Which member special applies, whether it covers your ticket category, and whether the two-ticket minimum for some levels fits your party.
- The final price after the booking fee, using the fee bands in our guide.
- Who pays first, and what happens if someone drops out: Esplanade’s ticketing page says tickets sold are non-refundable and trading or resale is not allowed, and our split-the-bill guide has a message to copy.
- Clashes with the Singapore Writers Festival, which its organiser page gives as 13 to 22 November and so overlaps Rafta Rafta and the festival’s opening weekend.
Kalaa Utsavam starts 12 days after Deepavali, which the Ministry of Manpower lists on Sunday 8 November 2026; for that weekend see our Deepavali open-house hosting plan and our Little India Deepavali visit guide. For other Esplanade programmes, see Esplanade concerts from October to December 2026 and the going-out topic page.
