Singapore Art Week 2027 runs from Thursday 21 to Sunday 31 January 2027, the 15th edition, according to the National Arts Council (NAC), which runs its open call. The full programme has not been published, but NAC's open-call rules already tell you something useful: projects it funds must be open to the public by 21 January and stay open for the whole 11 days, so either weekend (23 to 24 or 30 to 31 January) should let you see the funded shows.

Below: what NAC has confirmed, where Singapore Art Week (SAW) projects have usually been, what is still unknown, and how to plan a group art weekend now without committing money.

At a glance

  • Dates: Thursday 21 to Sunday 31 January 2027, the 15th edition (NAC open call page, last updated 29 September 2026).
  • Funded projects: must be open to the public by 21 January 2027 and presented for the entire festival; they may start earlier or end later.
  • Where: past editions centred on Gillman Barracks, the Tanjong Pagar District (including Tanjong Pagar Distripark), Bras Basah Bugis around Waterloo Street and the Civic District, plus cinemas, bookstores and homes.
  • Formats: exhibitions, performances, screenings, temporary outdoor installations, guided tours, and talks, lectures and workshops.
  • 2027 open-call focus: collaborations and exchanges between local and Southeast Asian artists, curators and producers.
  • Programme: not yet published; NAC points to the SAW website for details (NAC's SAW page).

What is Singapore Art Week?

NAC describes SAW as "an annual visual arts platform that profiles homegrown artists and art projects", held each January "in and around the island across various venues where we live and work: arts and cultural institutions, private galleries, art precincts, independent art spaces, public spaces, and homes". Its tagline is #ArtTakesOver. NAC's general SAW page calls it Singapore's "signature visual arts season", bringing together institutions, private galleries, non-profit organisations, independent artists and curators.

For a visitor, that means SAW is a season of many separate events under one banner rather than a single ticketed festival, so each event sets its own terms: some may be free and walk-in, others ticketed.

What has been confirmed for SAW 2027 so far?

Everything confirmed comes from NAC's open call for proposals, which closed on 20 May 2026:

  • The festival dates, 21 to 31 January 2027.
  • The curatorial direction: proposals were asked to focus on "collaborations and/or artistic exchanges between local and Southeast Asian artists, curators, and/or producers".
  • The rule that funded projects open by 21 January and run for the full period, with start dates allowed before 21 January and end dates after 31 January.
  • The scale of support: NAC says successful past projects typically received between S$15,000 and S$50,000.

What is not confirmed: the list of projects, venues, opening hours, which events are free, and the dates of any art fairs held during the week. Commercial fairs announce their own dates and tickets; we could not open their sites, or the SAW website, from our research environment on 17 October 2026, so none are given here.

How should you plan a Singapore Art Week weekend?

You can plan the shape of the weekend now and fill in the events once the programme is out. This is our method, not NAC guidance.

  1. Choose the weekend. Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January is the opening weekend, when openings and talks tend to cluster (our expectation, not a published schedule). Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January is the last chance for projects that close with the festival.
  2. Consider one leave day. A Friday off (22 or 29 January) turns either weekend into three days; Monday 1 February would also extend the second, for projects that run beyond 31 January. Our leave planner for 2027 shows how January leave sits against the year's long weekends.
  3. Plan by precinct. Group the shows you want under the precincts NAC names and give each group its own half day, checking travel times between them on a journey planner, rather than crossing town for single shows.
  4. Set a decision date. Pencil the weekend in now; commit money only when the programme lists the events you want, with dates, hours and prices.

A message to adapt for friends: "Art Week is 21 to 31 Jan. Shall we keep Sat 23 or Sat 30 Jan free? I will send the programme when it is out, and we decide by [date]. Nothing to pay yet."

Who is Singapore Art Week for, and what else is on in January?

SAW suits friends who like walking between galleries and will happily see six small shows rather than one blockbuster, and anyone curious about Southeast Asian contemporary art, given the 2027 focus. It is less suited to a group that wants a single booked activity with a fixed time; for that, our guide to planning an exhibition outing as a group covers ticketed shows.

Two other January dates are already fixed. Gardens by the Bay's Spring Blossoms display opens in the Flower Dome on 15 January 2027 for the Year of the Goat (event page); our Flower Dome 2027 calendar lists the year's displays. And Chinese New Year falls on 6 and 7 February 2027 (MOM), about a week after SAW ends, which may matter if you are planning around family commitments. More planning pieces are on the planning topic page.

Common questions

When is Singapore Art Week 2027?

Thursday 21 to Sunday 31 January 2027, the 15th edition, according to the National Arts Council.

Has the Singapore Art Week 2027 programme been released?

Not as of 17 October 2026; NAC had published the dates and its open-call rules, and points to the SAW website for details.

SAW is a season of separate events, each setting its own terms; until the 2027 programme is published, which events are free is not confirmed.
