Orchard Road's Christmas light-up for 2026, Christmas on A Great Street, runs from Tuesday 17 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, with a light-up ceremony at 7pm on 17 November at Shaw House Urban Plaza. Parts of it start sooner: a projection show on the Hilton Singapore Orchard façade and festive music along the walkways begin on Sunday 1 November, and the first Great Christmas Village opens at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on Friday 13 November. The organiser lists no charge for the street, the projection or the Christmas Eve street party; the village games and train run on paid carnival credits.

When does the Orchard Road Christmas light-up start in 2026?
The lights are switched on at the ceremony on 17 November, but the season arrives in stages. The organiser's calendar, checked on 31 October 2026:
- Sunday 1 November: the Hilton projection and "Music in the Air" begin. The music plays from 10am to 6.59pm daily on four walkways: ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City, Mandarin Gallery, Paragon and Shaw House.
- Friday 13 November: the Great Christmas Village opens at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, with live music that weekend.
- Tuesday 17 November: the light-up ceremony. Merli, the Singapore Tourism Board's mascot, appears on the Shaw House façade as an inflatable about 6.2 metres tall in a Santa hat, lit from 6.30pm to 6.30am nightly.
- Friday 20 November: the second village opens at Shaw House Urban Plaza.
- Thursday 24 December: the Great Christmas Eve Street Party.
- Sunday 3 January 2027: the last day. Merli stays on Shaw House in its usual look from 4 January to 20 February.
Brand pop-ups, such as a LEGO Christmas pop-up from 13 November to 22 December, run alongside. The ceremony page invites the public but gives no registration details, so arrive early for the switch-on.
What is free on Orchard Road this Christmas, and what costs money?
The organiser lists no charge for:
- Five photo spots: "Steps of Golden Joy" in front of Shaw House Urban Plaza; an illuminated arch, "Gateway to Golden Joy", and "A Golden Christmas Moment", both in front of ION Orchard; a giant mistletoe-inspired installation in front of Ngee Ann City; and "The Golden Christmas Tree" in front of Mandarin Gallery.
- The projection show, with a midnight countdown on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
- Snowfall at the Hitachi Santa House in the Ngee Ann City village, at 8pm and 9pm daily.
- Live performances at the Ngee Ann City village at 7.15pm, 8.15pm and 9.15pm. The performance schedule lists Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 13 November, plus New Year's Eve (most Fridays have no 9.15pm act), with acts including VOS children's carollers, NTU Harmonix and Maia Lee (19 December).
What costs money is inside the villages, run by Kiztopia: arcade games, claw machines, a balloon shooting range, the Mastercard Train, a LEGO workshop and food stalls. The village page lists no entry charge at either site.

How do Great Christmas Village carnival credits work?
Games and rides are paid with a Kiztopia carnival card. The village page lists what a card buys when you pay by Mastercard:
- New card: S$35 for 35 credits, S$50 for 70 credits, S$100 for 150 credits.
- Top-up: S$30 for 45 credits, S$50 for 75 credits, S$100 for 160 credits.
- Mastercard Train: each ride is valued at S$10, or 10 credits.
The page does not say what a card costs if you pay another way, or what each game costs, so check at the booth.
A worked example (illustrative, with an invented family). Two parents and two children, paying by Mastercard, want one train ride each: 40 credits. A S$35 card would not cover it; a S$50 card gives 70 credits, leaving 30 for games. A S$30 top-up on a second evening adds 45 more. Sharing a card between two households? Our group cost calculator works out each share.
In December, Ngee Ann City stays open to 10.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays, Shaw House to 10.30pm on 18, 19, 25 and 26 December, and both until 1am on Christmas Eve.
How to plan an evening on Orchard Road
A running order for a weekend evening (ours, from the published times):
- 7pm: start in front of ION Orchard, where the arch and a second photo spot stand.
- 7.15pm: the first performance at the Ngee Ann City village.
- 8pm: snowfall at the Hitachi Santa House, with a second show at 9pm.
- After 8pm: Shaw House Urban Plaza for its village, the Steps of Golden Joy and Merli.
- Before 10pm: the Hilton projection, which ends at 10pm on ordinary nights, and the Golden Christmas Tree at Mandarin Gallery.
From Saturday 21 November the school holidays may bring more families on weekday evenings (our inference). Between 13 and 19 November only the Ngee Ann City village is open.
What should overseas visitors know about the Tourist Pass and GST refunds?
Hosting visitors from overseas? The tourist privileges page offers an Orchard Road Tourist Pass to the first 1,000 who qualify, either way paying by Mastercard:
- Stay: at least three nights at a participating Orchard Road hotel.
- Spend: at least S$1,000 across participating establishments, combining up to five receipts.
The pass holds S$60 of vouchers, S$30 of carnival credits and a shopping bag. Redeem it with a foreign passport, the Mastercard used and the booking or receipts at the booth in the Ngee Ann City village, 3pm to 9pm daily, 13 November to 1 January. The Mastercard rewards page adds S$40 in mall vouchers for tourists who spend at least S$400 with an overseas-issued card at one of nine malls (13 November to 27 December, while stocks last).
The organiser also advertises up to 30% more GST refund at Paragon, Takashimaya Shopping Centre and Wisma Atria for overseas-issued Mastercards. Any refund still follows IRAS's Tourist Refund Scheme rules:
- The shopper is 16 or older and not a Singapore citizen or PR.
- Not a holder of a work pass, Dependant's Pass, Long Term Visit Pass or Student's Pass on the day of purchase, in the three months before it or on the day of the claim, so a relative staying long term may not qualify.
- At least S$100 including GST, adding up to three same-day receipts from the same shop.
- The original passport, shown in person when buying.
- Leaving with the goods via Changi or Seletar within two months; a handling fee comes off the refund.
What happens at the Christmas Eve street party?
On Thursday 24 December, part of Orchard Road closes from 6pm to 2am, between the Paterson junction at ION Orchard and the Bideford junction at Ngee Ann City. The party runs from 8pm to 12.15am, headlined by Benjamin Kheng and Maia Lee, with DJs, mascots and food trucks; Kheng leads the midnight countdown. *SCAPE adds "Sleigh the Street!", with street dance, graffiti art and circus acts.
Christmas Day falls on a Friday, so the party opens a long weekend for many. Plan the journey home first: the organiser's pages say nothing about late trains or buses.
