Chinese New Year 2027 in Singapore falls on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February, so reunion dinner on the eve is on Friday 5 February, an ordinary working and school day. MOM lists Monday 8 February as a public holiday (its holidays page adds "if your rest day falls on 7 February 2027"), and the Ministry of Education has made Tuesday 9 February a designated day off-in-lieu for its schools, with their student care centres closed too. For a household that hosts, that means three days off for a Monday-to-Friday worker, four for schoolchildren, and a few decisions worth making now: leave, a domestic worker's rest day, and who receives visitors on which day.
Dates are as MOM, MOE and Gardens by the Bay listed them on 25 October 2026; the arithmetic is ours.
At a glance
- Chinese New Year: Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2027, two of MOM's 11 gazetted public holidays for 2027 (MOM's Public Holidays for 2027 release, 18 June 2026).
- Monday 8 February: the release's footnote says it "will be a public holiday"; MOM's public holidays page says it will be one "if your rest day falls on 7 February 2027".
- Tuesday 9 February: a designated day off-in-lieu for schools, when schools, "including the General Office, Student Care Centres and KCare Centres, will be closed" (MOE's School Terms and Holidays for 2027, 14 July 2026).
- Friday 5 February, the eve: not a public holiday, and inside Term I for primary and secondary schools (Monday 4 January to Friday 12 March).
- Spring Blossoms: the Flower Dome's Lunar New Year display for the Year of the Goat, Friday 15 January to Sunday 28 February 2027.
Which days are off for Chinese New Year 2027?
This assumes a Monday-to-Friday job with Sunday as the rest day, as in MOM's examples; shift workers should check their roster and contract.
- Friday 5 February (eve): work and school as usual; reunion dinner follows a full day.
- Saturday 6 February: a public holiday on a non-working day.
- Sunday 7 February: a public holiday on the rest day.
- Monday 8 February: the paid holiday for that Sunday. MOM's entitlement and pay page says: "If a public holiday falls on your rest day, the following working day will be a paid public holiday."
- Tuesday 9 February: schools, their general offices, student care centres and KCare centres closed; most adults back at work.
Do you get a day off for the Saturday holiday?
Not always as a day. On a 5-day week, the same MOM page says that if a public holiday falls on a non-working day, "you are entitled to another day off or one extra day's salary in lieu", and names Saturday as the non-working day on a 5-day week. It does not say which date the day off falls on, or who chooses between the day and the pay. Employees not covered by the Employment Act follow their contract.
Ask your employer early. If the answer is a day off, Friday 5 or Tuesday 9 February are the dates that join the break; whether you can have either is for the two of you to agree.
Our leave arithmetic:
- No leave: Saturday 6 to Monday 8 February, three days.
- Leave on Friday 5 February: four days, with the eve free for cooking.
- Leave on Tuesday 9 February: four days, matching the school break on the day student care is closed.
- Both: Friday 5 to Tuesday 9 February, five days for two days of leave, or one day of leave plus the Saturday's day off if it can fall on one of those dates.
Our leave planner for 2027 and public holidays 2027 page cover the rest of the year.
A worked example: one household, five days
Illustrative: the household is invented; the dates, rules and prices are from the official pages linked here.
The Tans live in a four-room flat in Bedok. Hui Min and Kelvin both work Monday to Friday; their children, nine and seven, are in primary school. Kelvin's mother, 70, lives with them, so relatives come to them first. Joy, their domestic worker, usually rests on Sunday.
- Friday 5 February. Hui Min takes leave to shop and cook; reunion dinner is at home.
- Saturday 6 February. Kelvin's relatives visit until mid-afternoon; in the evening the Tans visit Hui Min's parents.
- Sunday 7 February. Joy takes her rest day, as agreed in December, and the family visits Hui Min's siblings.
- Monday 8 February. An open house from 2pm to 6pm for friends, including Kelvin's teammates Farah and Suresh and their families; Hui Min asked privately about halal and vegetarian needs and labels the snacks.
- Tuesday 9 February. School and student care are closed, so Kelvin takes his day of leave and, with his mother, takes the children to Spring Blossoms. At the Singapore Resident Flower Dome prices listed on 25 October 2026, that is S$8 for his mother (senior), S$8 for each child and S$12 for Kelvin: S$36.
One day of leave each covers the eve's cooking and the school day off, with the three holiday days together in between.

How should a domestic worker's rest day work over the holiday?
If your helper rests on Sundays, her rest day is Sunday 7 February, the second day. MOM's employer guide on rest days for migrant domestic workers (last updated 16 January 2026) says:
- She is entitled to one rest day a week, on a day you mutually agree.
- If she agrees to work on her rest day, you must pay at least one day's salary on top of her basic salary.
- At least one rest day a month cannot be compensated away.
- A rest day can be one full day or two half days, and one she cannot take in a month can be deferred by up to a month.
Agree the holiday week with her in December, so reunion preparations do not absorb her day off.
A hosting timeline to the fifteenth day
- By late November: apply for leave and ask how the Saturday holiday will be given.
- December: agree the helper's rest days; decide whether reunion dinner is at home or out. If a caterer is involved, see how much food to order and when it should arrive.
- Early January: send open-house windows rather than an all-day open door, as in our Deepavali open house plan; potluck ideas for 12 people helps if guests bring dishes.
- Friday 15 January: Spring Blossoms opens, 9am to 9pm, according to its Gardens by the Bay event page, which says "Floral display details are subject to change".
- Tuesday 2 February: the Flower Dome is closed for maintenance, per the Gardens' opening hours and closures page.
- Friday 12 and Saturday 20 February: counting 6 February as the first day, the seventh and fifteenth days (our count), if your family marks them.
- Sunday 28 February: Spring Blossoms ends.
What does Spring Blossoms cost for visiting relatives?
The Flower Dome page listed these prices on 25 October 2026, in Singapore dollars including GST:
- Singapore Resident, Flower Dome only: adult S$12, senior (60 and above) S$8, child (3 to 12) S$8.
- Non-Resident: no Flower Dome-only ticket was listed; Flower Dome and Cloud Forest cost S$46 an adult and S$32 a child.
- Resident rates cover citizens, permanent residents and people living here, including Employment Pass, Work Permit and Dependent Pass holders; proof may be required.
The Gardens' Children's Garden is listed as open Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays, so by our reading it opens on Monday 8 February but not on Tuesday 9 February: that Tuesday is not among the school holidays the page names, and even its school-holiday hours say "Closed on Tuesday if the preceding Monday is a public holiday". Our Flower Dome 2027 calendar has the later displays, and the hosting topic page has more plans for gatherings.
